About Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is an innovative action/role-playing game being developed for the Nintendo Wii by Square Enix.
Dragon Quest Swords will have a structure similar to arcade shooters such as House of the Dead. Although, in place of a gun, Dragon Quest Swords will utilize a sword as the primary weapon, which will be controlled by the Nintendo Wii remote. The direction you swing the Wii controller will determine the slash your character makes in game. You will progress through the game using your sword, shield, and magic to vanquish enemies and earn experience points.
Yuu Miyake, Executive Producer -
"We believe (Dragon Quest's) appeal lies in simplicity that anyone can enjoy, and the excitement of becoming a hero in an epic adventure. With the Nintendo Wii, we believe that these aspects of the DRAGON QUEST experience can be taken to a whole new level of fun and interaction" |

Game Mechanics
Aside from swinging the Wii remote to attack enemies on screen, you will have to defend yourself from attacks using the Wii Remote to activate a shield while holding the A button. The tricky part is blocking the area an enemy attacks on the screen. If you fail to defend the attack properly, you will be damaged. The Wii remote will vibrate when you fail to properly shield yourself from an attack. To attack distant creatures, you will have to use your magic by targeting an enemy with the Wii remote and pushing the B button. The magic, shield, and sword can all be used infinitely.
There is both an HP and a Special Attack meter displayed during battle. For every point of damage you inflict, your Special Attack gauge will build power. When the gauge has been maxed out, you can unleash a special attack that inflicts damage on all the creatures on screen. The damage this ability causes can be enhanced by holding the Wii remote above your head and whirling it around as fast as possible.
The menu is accessed using the - button. The menu allows you to select an item to use in battle and view your characters statistics. Your character earns exp in real-time while doing battle and can level up even during combat.
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Wii in spring of 2007.
